meet the teacher

Hey, I’m John. I’ve been a full-time musician and music teacher my whole life. I try to help students develop a healthy relationship with music that they can take with them for life. Lessons are centered on fun and laughter, which fosters engagement and curiosity.

I’ve had many opportunities to teach group music classes: with Global Arts to Go and the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation in New York, Get Empowered in the Bay Area, Wisconsin Youth Company in Madison, and giving college masterclasses while touring around the U.S. with various acts.

Places I’ve worked teaching music:

  • “John is an excellent teacher! When I asked my 8 year old grandson what he likes about John he quickly said "he's so nice!" And it's John's friendly personality that I appreciate as much as his excellent skills in teaching drums. He makes each lesson fun while also requiring attention and effort. You will be so happy you found him.”

    – Rona R.

  • "John is an incredible teacher! My daughter had the opportunity to work with John on a few musical projects and took lessons from him. He is without a doubt a true professional. He is beyond talented and passionate about what he does. You can tell he loves teaching and cares about his students' musical growth and development."

    -April S.

  • My son has been having a blast taking lessons with John. John's teaching style is a great balance of formal instruction and fun. I believe John has a good read on young students and can tailor instruction to the appropriate level of the student.

    – Amy C.

  • My silly, talkative , energetic 6 year old has been taking drum lessons from John for a few months now, and she LOVES it. He's great with her, letting her learn at her own pace and within her attention span. I highly recommend John!
